Enterprise Information Architecture

The structure of Teams sites, channels, tabs, and SharePoint document libraries is critical for promoting internal and external collaboration. Poor design results in siloed information, low adoption, and oversharing. Designing a Teams and SharePoint information architecture fosters collaboration while maintaining proper access and governance.

Your Enterprise Collaboration Roadmap

Adopting all Teams collaboration and unified communications features simultaneously is impossible, and full adoption can take years. Our approach is to develop a long-term roadmap that paves the most efficient path possible. The timing of existing contracts and the supportability of existing on-premises hardware often dictate the deployment sequence.

1. Governance & Compliance Configuration

There’s a delicate balance between fluid collaboration and compliance concerns due to oversharing. By default, Teams users can invite external users to existing Teams and share links to SharePoint documents without requiring authentication. This means a critical first step in our collaboration plan is to configure, monitor, and audit access and permissions to ensure that governance and compliance standards are met. We’ll also establish data loss prevention (DLP) policies to prevent the inappropriate sharing of sensitive data.

2. Group Chat and Document Management

Many organizations that use Microsoft 365 want to adopt Teams over Slack because of the enhanced telephony and meeting capabilities, superior Microsoft 365 platform integration, and cost savings. We leverage AvePoint’s FLY migration tool to migrate most Slack conversation, file, and message objects to Microsoft Teams. This migration can be done in the background before the cutover to minimize downtime and allow for thorough testing and validation.

3. Meetings

AdaptivEdge can help you enable Teams telephony by implementing and training users on Teams calling capabilities. This step may require configuring conference rooms with AV equipment and potentially migrating from another platform such as Zoom, Cisco, or another cloud vendor like 8×8.

4. Telephony

We like to introduce the telephony component last because most users will have fewer issues using Teams as their primary phone system if they’ve already been using it for chat and meetings.
